We recently caught up with Experius VR, a virtual reality studio that’s been working with top brands to create 360 video content.
The collaboration between Andrew Hendricks, son of Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks, and Elliott Mizroch, a Washington, D.C.-based entrepreneur, first caught our attention with their Mercedes-Benz – Loki 360 Experience:

How did Experius VR get interested in filming in 360?
Elliott Mizroch: In 2014 I went to a DCVR meet up hosted by my friends Jason Ganz and Matthias McCoy–Thompson. Halfway through the event I saw my first demo of cinematic VR. It was a clip of Hardwell DJ’ing at Tomorrowland. I felt butterflies like I was standing on stage and everyone was looking at me. I took the headset off and was hooked right away. Two weeks later Andrew invited me to pre-run the Baja 1000 in Mexico, and along the 1000-mile journey from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas the plan to get into virtual reality was hatched.
Projects so far
Elliott: Experius VR is a young company. Andrew and I have been investing in and learning about VR/ AR since 2014. After that we spent some time learning the craft, shooting anything and everything we could in 360, then in 2015 we shot a Bentley [Motors] chase scene at Gateway Canyons Resort with our friends Emiliano Ruprah and Alex Lourie:
In 2016 we were asked to do the Loki 360 project for Mercedes. That got a lot of attention. We’re in discussions now with a professional sports team, a major hotel brand and another major car company to create some really special 360° video content. Keep an eye out for that.
Gear
For the Bentley shoot we used a 14-camera 360Heros stereoscopic rig [the 3DH3Pro14H] combined with 3D audio from Visisonics. For the Loki 360° shoot we used a similar monoscopic setup. Moving forward we’ve been experimenting with other types of cameras; AS7’s, RED’s etc. As you can see in the Bentley video we also did some shooting in an A-Star B3+ helicopter. That was fun. We’re stilling waiting for someone to build an FAA approved exterior mount for a 360 rig.
